It's that time of the week again! Yep, this morning we'll be rounding up Malaysia's five favourite homify articles from the past seven days.

This time, balconies led the charge. In these summer months, it seems like everyone wants to know how to make the most of their small outdoor spaces with as little fuss and cost as possible. Luckily, our top article will show you how to do just that.

Light and bright houses were also at the top of your priority list. The two that made it to the top spot are based in Brazil and Italy respectively – far away from us – but the style lessons they can teach us are just as relevant for Malaysian homes.

But enough chatter, let's see the top five!

The miraculous balcony transformation

Balconies. If you don't have one, you likely want one, and if you have one, you no doubt regularly wonder how you can make it better. And having a cosy little balcony may just be one of the biggest perks of urban apartment living these days--nothing enormous or ostentatious is needed to have a relaxing time perusing your neighbourhood and taking in the fresh air.

This balcony, however, was looking a little worse for wear… until the balcony fixers came to the rescue, that is! Check out what it looks like now…

The dingy kitchen

Sometimes it is difficult to foresee a home’s potential due to its current conditions, but a skilled interior architect can see potential in the most decaying of structures. Prospective homeowners would do well to remember this. It is especially applicable to those thinking of purchasing an old home before renovation it according to their requirements.

This Lublin apartment was anything but lovable before its renovation. However, take a look at this amazing transformation – it proves that when it comes to your home, nothing is impossible.

The modern retro home…

This Brazilian abode evokes an unusual nostalgic charm. It has a personality of its own that is palpable the moment you step inside. Its young owners loved its singularity and wanted to preserve it at any cost, which turned out to be a very wise decision for them.

Characterised by a mix of textures, stark modern lines and retro touches, this home is truly unique, and you loved it. Step inside to find out why…

Kitchens that inspire

The kitchen serves a very functional, practical purpose, and it comes with a string of utilitarian necessities that will affect its design; so it may be all too tempting to let it slide under the creativity radar when designing, redecorating or remodelling your home. However, the kitchen is often the heart of the home, and as such it’s likely to be one of the home’s most used areas, so why not try and make it something really unique and special?

With this in mind, we put together a list of a few really original ideas for your kitchen. Go and choose your favourite…

The light-filled home

This bright, modern and minimalist family home was constructed with efficiency in mind: energy efficiency, and efficient utilisation of space. The idea was to have a bright, open living space, and to use the garden to compliment the home.

Small but chic, the slightly twee exterior gives away nothing. However, one peek inside reveals a modern minimalist wonderland. Take a look for yourself…

That's all for this week! Remember to stay tuned to homify for more magical makeovers, inspiring tours and helpful home hacks. See you next Sunday!
