Dividing tends to be a intrinsic part of humans, as we spend so much time categorizing, labeling and figuring out a means to better understand what we have and where it comes from. This is no different in our homes and from a design perspective, dividing can help us to become more organised, clean and happy. Trying to partition your small or large home? There are plenty of great and useful techniques to get you started!

Some designers are even opting for interior vertical gardens as a means to separate space, and we love it!

1. With a placard

A placard is a great way to organise your space because it still leaves the rooms wide open if you prefer an open-concept design plan.

Since they're rather small, consider allowing your placards to feature colour, patter, or texture – think wallpaper, tiles or even a unique hand painted mural.

2. With plants or a winter garden

One of the newest trends is to use plants and greenery as a means of divining or partitioning off space.  You will need to be more strategic here by picking greenery with appropriate heights, colours and maintenance.

Larger, tropical trees are better for this design concept and they are typically more low-maintenenance which is what a lot of homeowners look for!

3. With semi-transparent doors

Want some privacy but also want access to more natural light? Look no further than semi-transparent doors like seen here surrounding this low-positioned bed.

Not only will these doors spread out the natural light for a bright and early start to the morning, but they will also give a lot of privacy!

4. Division by library

In-home libraries can be a great way to not only divide space – hey can also stand in as brilliant design feature in your home – one where great books and unique decorative objects collide.

5. With glass

Sleek, minimalist and clean – a glass partition is perfect for homeowners with more modern, minimalist or Scandinavian homes.

It keep everything organised, yet open and also doesn't infringe upon the abundance of natural light that you want to permeate the entirety of your home.

6. With sliding doors

Rustic, modern, Mediterranean, etc; – these are all the styles that go perfectly with sliding doors.

A lot of homeowners and designers are look at repurposed or refurbished barn wood and reclaimed industrial wood as a means to create fantastic large-scale, sliding doors. So consider venues like this to make your project interesting, unique and sustainable!

7. With furniture, or storage compartments

As we mentioned before, the need to label and categorise things in life is the exact reason why we also invent in storage containers and compartments. Furnishings, or storage compartments, (similar to placards) are a great way to divide space and keep it as functional as possible!
