This type of decor revolves around uncluttered and purified spaces which is a minimalist approach. There is also a great use of bamboo, tatami flooring, paper lighting and Nature representation of the Japanese flora such as the cherry blossom tree in full bloom. When option for a Japanese style to decorate a home, there will be a sense of peace and breathability. Bonsai tree

The charm and appeal of a bonsai tree rests with its size and the miniaturised tree look. Since regular trees can get very big and take up a lot of space, growing a bonsai tree in a home will bring in a Nature influence without taking too much space. A dash of green is alway a welcome addition to a room such as the one show in the picture here. The main colour palette of this living room is red, so using an opposite colour like the lush green of the bonsai will be a marvellous combination of lively colours. Having a bonsai tree in a room will display the owner's attention to detail and beauty since bonsai trees requires special attention and care. The bonsai tree art has been a part of Japanese decorating for centuries and adding one to a room will bring in the perfect dose of this type of style. As mentioned earlier, if the owner of the home only wishes to have a few Japanese touches, then a bonsai is the solution because of it's small size and beautiful look.

Traditional sliding doors

Another very important part of the Japanese style is with the use of sliding doors. Traditional sliding doors made of paper are still widely used as well as ornamented glass doors. The current image is of engraved leaf patterns on glass sliding doors. The advantage sliding doors have is that they won't take up too much space, they are quiet and they are great room dividers that still let natural light travel through rooms. Freestanding room dividers can also be added into a room without being incased like these sliding doors which is a great solution for those on a tight budget. Another option would be to use bamboo trees to divide a room that can add a dash of greenery to a home. Sliding doors can also be used for the garderobe to reproduce the Japanese style in the bedroom. Ornamented sliding doors such as these will also be a lovely decorative addition to the room that can act as a wallpaper or wall decoration for the room it is in. The key with sliding doors is simplicity and Nature oriented styles.

Paper lanterns and paper lighting are also another great influence in the Japanese style. Nowadays, they are available anywhere and at varying prices to accomodate every budget. Using tatami flooring

Villa K2, Atelier Boronski Atelier Boronski Asian style bedroom

Using tatami flooring

Tatami floors have the advantage of being very comfortable, stylish with their light tint and they perfectly adjust to any climate. This type of flooring is silent which is good advantage in comparison to an old creaking wooden floor. It will also not conduct outside temperatures which means, for example, that if it is cold outside a ceramic floor will stay quite icy, but the temperature would not be felt on a tatami floor. In a kid's room, a floor such as this one is a safe option to chose from because it is not a very hard surface and it can absorb the shock of a little one falling down, without a scratch. Being a very traditional type of Japanese style flooring, the fact that it has been used for centuries proves its advantage to have in a home as well as being quite nice to look at. Also, an uncluttered space will permit for more of the room to be seen which goes along the lines of the minimalist, purified and unhindered Japanese decorating approach.
