Traditional homes are attractive since there is an element of simplicity attached to them. This home in Chennai was designed with a similar concept in mind. With a budget of 7 lakhs, the client’s requirement of perfect interiors was achieved. The furniture and the style that you see in the house is not expensive or excessively elaborate. The home has been designed by the interior designers and decorators of Ajith Interiors. One of the most striking features of the design is the use of a single laminate all across the home.

Modest TV unit

Here, we see a simple and efficient way of utilising the space in the living room. A small alcove serves as a perfect place to set up cabinets and shelves. The wall above it has been used to install the TV. A few corner ledges and you have an innovative yet functional TV unit. A dark colour laminate has been chosen for the shelves, and this gives the room a sophisticated look.

Traditional kitchen design

The long counter that stretches from one end to the other is perfect as it makes the kitchen functional and eases the workflow. In one corner, shelves and cabinets have been added above the counter. They not only provide additional storage but give an even and consistent look to the design. Furthermore, adding a sizeable floor-to-ceiling shelf has helped to create a closed pantry for the family.

Modest Countertops

The black granite of the countertop matches the laminate chosen for the kitchen. The wood laminate is a dark colour with beautiful natural grains. The designers have used the lower half of the wall to add cabinets, and this has helped to give an open and airy feel to the kitchen.

Glossy look

The reasonably large kitchen has been designed for maximum efficiency. For instance, the designers have added loft storage that the homeowners can make use of adequately. One of the noticeable things is the glossy effect of the laminate. It tends to make the room look clean and sophisticated.

Modern fixtures

The best thing about sticking with a traditional design is that you can easily include modern elements into it as well. The fabulous chimney contrasts the design and the colours of the kitchen to become a focal feature. It works wonderfully well in the room.

Pooja room entrance

This grand entrance door to the pooja area makes an impressive statement. In Indian homes, the pooja room has always served as a way for homeowners to display their creativity. Antique doors have an intrinsic charm, and that is evident here. The goddesses and the bells carved into the wood give the door a unique and gorgeous look. The lighter tone of wood also makes the door stand out in the home’s interiors.
