It's been another busy week at homify UK that's witnessed another wonderfully interesting and diverse set of projects. Our most read article was a look around a beautiful, minimal bungalow in Japan that was a highly successful collaboration between architect and owner. Another project that caught your eye was something altogether different! On the other side of the Pacific we took a tour around a residential conversion of a dilapidated guest-house in Blackpool! Let’s see what else made the Top 5…
Our top project this week was this seemingly unassuming Japanese bungalow. Originally conceived by a couple with young children who were looking for a fresh start and didn't want to move into a conventional, established home, the result is a house built from scratch, tailored specifically to the needs of the family. Plain from the outside, the real interest lies indoors where natural materials are used intelligently to create an exquisite modern look that doesn't venture too far away from traditional Japanese heritage. See more of this house, here.
Also arousing huge interest was Tinity Hall. An undeniably impressive but classic British exterior hides a quite stunning and rather unexpected interior. Beyond the classic black front door lies true architectural genius and eccentric interior design that perfectly marries old and new. Furthermore, there's a breathtaking extension to the rear that has to be seen to be believed!
Next up we have Potters Bank in Durham, UK, which we coined The Yin Yang House due to its overlapping black and white colours and harmonious design. The sharp contrast of the colour and angles that capture the eye collude to create a façade that is a little confusing but, at the same time, magical. The home evokes natural curiosity, which probably explains why it appears so high on this week's chart.
Fourth spot this week belongs to this before-and-after project that saw a run-down guesthouse transformed into a lovely family home. There is something truly fulfilling about a dilapidated and neglected house given a second chance as a stylish and useful home. Originally an eight-bedroom guesthouse, the architect produced a design that would satisfy financial constraints yet still provide a stylish and sophisticated home. You were clearly impressed!
Finally this week we visit an intriguing home that certainly captured the imagination. The humble exterior leaves passers by blissfully unaware of the luxury that is hidden within. Behind the timber door lies brilliantly smart interior design, bold colours and a fabulous swimming pool. Dive in!
