Kate Spade opened the doors of its fourth London store, located on prestigious Regent Street, last month. Househam Henderson were delighted to work as the Architects on this project for the New York fashion, home and lifestyle brand.

The store occupies two spacious floors of the Grade II listed building, totalling over 1100 square metres. It houses not only Kate Spade retail, but also offices and conference facilities for the brand’s corporate staff.
Designed by Kate Spade’s in-house team with support from Househam Henderson, the store is characterised by carefully-choreographed colour and keen attention to detail. Quirky design features create a sense of fun – mirrored ceilings, huge ‘sputnik’ chandeliers and glittering wallpapers (part of the brand’s own décor range).

The playful yet elegant theme is characterised by the new feature stair, designed by both Househam Henderson & Kate Spade’s in-house team, with structural design by Milk. Sparked by both Kate Spade concept sketches and Heritage building constraints, the design was developed through an iterative process spanning over 8 months.
Over a series of design-development meetings, the stair flourished from a small spiral sketch into a showpiece of oiled walnut, polished brass and blackened metal. Portview General Contractors pulled out all stops in construction, including painting the brand’s iconic stripes – over 5.5m height – freehand during an unexpected blackout.

We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Kate Spade as they expand their presence across Europe. As the neon lettering on the wall states, this is indeed a brand that loves to ‘Live Colorfully’.
