Floor Plans for Extended & Reconfigured 1950s House ArchitectureLIVE

Located in a picturesque West Sussex village in the South Downs National Park, this property, believed to have been built in the 1950s, was in poor condition. Our clients us with the brief to completely refurbish and extend the house, upgrading its facilities for then selling it on the open market.

The original property featured a very compact footprint with 3 perfectly located, yet very small, single bedrooms on the first floor. The client’s brief required 4 double bedrooms, a new bathroom and ensuite as well as a generous open-plan kitchen-dining and family room with optimal orientation towards the garden.

ArchitectureLIVE’s design provides new front, side and rear extensions to provide spacious accommodation on both the ground and first floor. A new front extension houses the entrance and hallway, stairs and landing and a family bathroom. A new side wing accommodates a dedicated kitchen-dining room with a sizeable master-bedroom suite located above, replacing an existing garage and glazed lean-to.

All new building elements feature painted weatherboarding, a variety of gabled dormers and a New England inspired enclosed porch, creating a new identity for the previously tired and run down building.

Well screened by the existing mature hedging, a new driveway layout with garage to the front, and a new terraced garden to the rear accessed via generous bifold doors from the open plan kitchen and dining room complete this transformation.
