Beechwood SDA Architecture Ltd Modern kitchen

This property started its journey with SDA as a tired, dated and lacklustre 1600ft three bedroom home. The client brief was to reinvent this into a modern family home with 5 bedrooms and some features that would give it the ‘wow’ factor.

The final design is one of two halves, from the front elevation the house remains understated with a renovated exterior and two modern cedar clad side extensions to form a garage and an annex. However, from the rear the ‘wow’ factor criteria has really been met, with delicate staggered extensions, a mixed contemporary material palette of thermowood, Brazilian slate wall cladding, crisp white render and large glass expansions the rear elevation is a total contrast to the front elevation. The cantilevered first floor extension adds drama to the overall scheme whilst also providing a lovely outside dining area beneath. The flat roof extensions add balcony areas to the first floor bedrooms and provide a contemporary quality to the design. The final scheme is a 3500ft home. It has been fully renovated, reinvented and revitalised. The property has been brought up to code 6 for sustainable homes and its beauty has meant it has been nominated for numerous awards including Regional Best Extension Design Awards 2014, LABC Design Awards for Best Extension in 2015, Daily Telegraph Design Awards 2014 and UK Best Driveway Award Winner 2015.
